A child’s room is one of the very first places whe A child’s room is one of the very first places where imagination comes to life.✨
From the moment they open their eyes, children are already soaking up stories, from the illustrations on their walls to the books they’re read before bedtime.

Research suggests that thoughtfully designed spaces can nurture children’s curiosity, comfort and imaginative play. I love that something as simple as an illustration can become part of that world.🧡

One of my strongest childhood memories is the hand-embroidered ABC wall hanging my mum made for my room. It was completely unique, made especially for me and my sister, and somehow it’s one of the first things I think of when I picture my childhood bedroom.

That’s why it always makes me smile when my illustrations become part of a child’s room. In this room, they’ve found their way onto the @meetmeatthewall.wallpaper and into Een Kleintje Erbij, creating one little world together.

Maybe that’s the magic of a child’s room. The smallest details often become the biggest memories. 🤍

I genuinely love illustrating for children. 🧡 Ove I genuinely love illustrating for children. 🧡

Over the years, there are a few things I always come back to whenever I start a new illustration.
Here are five of them:

• For a long time, I wondered if I had enough experience to truly understand children. Then I realised the most important thing wasn’t being a parent, it was staying connected to the child I once was.

• Stay true to your own style.
It’s wonderful to admire other illustrators, but don’t lose your own voice trying to sound like someone else. Every illustration carries the heart, experiences and imagination of the person who created it, and that’s exactly what makes it special.

• Parents are part of your audience too.
Children may fall in love with the illustrations, but parents are the ones choosing the books, products and experiences that become part of their child’s world.

•Emotion comes first. Children are wonderfully honest. They don’t care if an illustration is trendy, they care about how it makes them feel. Humour, comfort and wonder are often what stay with them the longest.

•This is why I became a children’s illustrator. 🧡
I believe illustrations can help children feel understood, make sense of the world, and discover just how powerful their imagination can be.

It’s a privilege to create something that might become a small part of someone’s childhood, and I never take that for granted.

I’d love to know: what would you add to this list?

This Is What a Slug Does is officially out, and I couldn’t be happier. Thank you @postwave_books
This book is extra special to me because it’s my very first international publication. Inside, you’ll discover the wonderfully weird world of slugs, a nonfiction adventure packed with fascinating facts, surprising discoveries, and plenty of slimy adventures . It turns out slugs are far more interesting (and charming!) than they usually get credit for.
I hope this book makes children laugh, wonder, and maybe even look a little differently at the next slug they spot in the garden.

I’m curious… have you got your copy yet? I’d love to hear what you think! 💚

Growing a family means growing everyone’s world. W Growing a family means growing everyone’s world.
When a new baby arrives, parents prepare the nursery. But older siblings are preparing too, they’re making room in their hearts, their routines, and sometimes even their favorite spot on the couch.💜
A story can’t answer every question, but it can make this new adventure feel a little more familiar.
Een kleintje erbij is my way of helping make that first step a little easier.

Just over here, planting seeds. 🌱 Some of them end Just over here, planting seeds. 🌱
Some of them end up on paper. Some of them grow into books. Some of them turn into completely unexpected ideas because I couldn’t resist trying “just one more” weird material.
This new project has me stepping way outside my comfort zone, making a glorious mess and experimenting like there’s no rulebook.
And while I’m planting all these little seeds for future projects, I secretly hope this project will plant one too. In a child’s mind. A seed of curiosity, imagination, or the urge to look a little closer at the tiny wonders around them.
We’ll see what grows. 💚
